Thirty Marshall County residents have successfully completed the forty-one hour, nine week Citizen Academy designed by the District Attorney’s office, Steve Marshall and John Young. The Academy was started in 2003 as a way to help fight the growing Methamphetamine drug problem in the county. This year’s class is the 8th class to graduate from the program.
Other agencies participating in the Academy Training included the Police Departments of Albertville, Arab, Boaz, Douglas, Grant, and Guntersville, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, the Marshall County Drug Enforcement Unit, DHR, the Adult & Juvenile Probation, Child Advocacy, District and Circuit Court Judges Hawk, Jolley, Riley, and Burke, Arab City Attorney Jeff McLaughlin, Court Referral Office, Community Corrections, Drug Court, Visitation and Family Services, Domestic Violence Coalition, Arab Special Services Unit, Guntersville K-9 Unit, Albertville Crime Scene Investigation, Guntersville Motor Carrier Enforcement, Alabama State Troopers, Alabama Marine Police, Alabama Conservation Department, Alabama State Park Police, and Marshall County RSVP.
Each graduate received a certificate for “41 Hours of Law Enforcement Training.” District Attorney Steve Marshall said that each participant is now better “armed to help in the fight against illegal drugs”.
Several graduates said they felt that everyone in the county could benefit by going through the training.
