The Snead State Community College Bowl Team finished in third place at the National Academic Quiz Tournament held at Chipola College in Marianna, Fla., recently.

The College Bowl Team finished undefeated to take the crown at the National Academic Quiz Tournaments, Inc., Sectional Tournament, held Jan. 23 at the Northwest Shoals Phil Campbell Campus. The win qualified them for the national tournament.

“College Bowl is an academic competition similar to high school scholar’s bowl. It is a team competition where members attempt to answer questions concerning a wide variety of subjects ranging from math, science and other academic fields to current events, sports, and pop culture,” said Business Instructor and College Bowl Sponsor Vann Scott.

Snead State compiled a record of 10 wins and two losses in the 24-team field. They completed preliminary rounds with an undefeated record but lost in the championship rounds to Lakes Charles Community College of Missouri and Northeast Alabama which finished in first and second place, respectively. Mark Morris of Brindlee Mountain finished in fifth place among individual scorers and was named to the All-Tournament team.

“The students competed well and represented the College in an exemplary manner,” said Mr. Scott.

The Parsons’ season will continue into April as they travel to the State Championship Tournament, held at the University of Montevallo.
