Judge Liles Burke Qualifies For
Alabama Court Of Criminal Appeals

Birmingham - November 18, 2011
Judge Liles Burke has officially qualified with the Alabama Republican Party as a candidate for the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals Place 2. Judge Burke was appointed by Governor Bentley to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals in February of 2011, and is seeking a full six year term on the Court.

“I have been very pleased with the support that I have received as I have campaigned across Alabama. My message is a simple one: I pledge to the citizens of this state that I will fairly and seriously consider each case that comes before our Court. I will interpret the law as it is written and apply the law to the facts of each case. I have a conservative judicial philosophy and I will not legislate from the bench,” stated Burke.

Additionally, Judge Burke strongly believes that justice delayed is justice denied. He has written opinions which were adopted by the full court in more than two hundred cases over the past eight months, reducing the number of pending cases in his office by more than fifty percent since joining the Court.

A native of Marshall County, Judge Liles Burke attended the University of Alabama receiving his undergraduate degree in 1991. He earned his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1994. Burke worked in private practice for thirteen years and served as both Municipal Prosecutor and City Attorney in Arab, AL. In 2001, he was named Municipal Judge for the City of Arab. In 2006, Burke was appointed Marshall County District Judge by Governor Riley and was elected in 2008 without opposition.

Judge Burke is married to the former Natalie Jones Burke of Jasper. They have two children, Camilla Jane (age 5) and Claud Liles (age 3). The Burkes are active members of the First United Methodist Church of Arab, where Judge Burke serves as the Assistant Organist.
