Fire completely destroyed a home at 465 Brookside Drive around 11:45pm Sunday night. The home was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene. No one was at home at the time of the fire and no one was injured.
Dawn Laughlin, owner of the home, was staying with her parents because of a rash of recent break ins at the home. Laughlin said the home had been broken into 5 times in the past 6 weeks. Laughlin said she had lived in the home since she was 4 years old and had recently repainted 7 rooms in the home. She said the home was originally built by her parents and that she had purchased it when they built a new home a short distance away.
Neighbors said the house appeared to be ok when they went to bed around 10:00pm. They were awakened by their dog, discovered the fire and called 911.
Firefighters from 4-C Volunteer Fire Department and Georgia Mountain Volunteer Fire Department battled the blaze. Arab Fire Department also responded to the scene. Arab Police were called to the scene to begin an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
