Flooding on Haynes Road NE caused a SUV to be stall and be swept around around midnight on Sunday. Megan Satterfield, the driver of the Honda Odyssey, retreated to the top of the vehicle until rescuers reached her and helped her to walk out of the flooded area. Satterfield was not injured during the initial incident but did receive injuries after she fell while talking on a cell phone.
Satterfield told rescuers that she was driving West on Haynes Road NE and did not see the high water until she drove into it. By then she said the water was up to the vehicle headlights. Arab Fire and Rescue personnel were able to wade out to the vehicle and assist Satterfield from the roof of the vehicle and then lead her to safety.
While waiting for a wrecker to tow the SUV from the waters, Satterfield, who was making calls to family and a friend, apparently tripped and fell, striking her head. She was unconscious for a period of time after the fall and was transported to Marshall Medical Center North by Arab Fire Medics. She was still undergoing testing at the time of this story.
The flooded section, between Hickory Hill Dr NE and Red Oak Lane NE was barricaded after the incident by Arab Street Department Director Steve Hallman. The area where Satterfield stalled, is a problem area that frequently floods during heavy rains. A second section of the road between Putter Circle NE and Turtle Creek Circle NE was also barricaded.
