A bizarre chain of events
on Wednesday has the family of Carol Maze reeling from the
tragic series of events.
The tragic turn
of events started Wednesday morning when former Arab
Ambulance Director Carol Maze suffered an apparent stroke at a
residence on Maze Road. She was transported to Marshall
Medical Center North by Arab Fire Rescue ambulance and remained
on life support and in critical condition Wednesday evening.
Wednesday
afternoon around 4 pm. Maze's son Joey, and several other family
members were involved in an auto accident while returning from
the hospital. One family member was flown to Huntsville
Hospital and several others were transported to hospitals by
ambulance.
After the wreck,
Joey Maze returned to the Maze Road residence only to find that
his father had apparently passed away in his sleep.
According to reports, Joey Maze had gone
outside Wednesday morning, and returned to find his mother Carol
Maze unconscious on the floor. Maze was unresponsive when
AFR personnel arrived on the scene. She was transported to
Marshall Medical Center North. She was placed on a
ventilator and at last report remained on the life support
system in critical condition.
According
to Joey Maze, a decision regarding the life support will be made
sometime on Thursday after Maze's other son Roger arrives.
Roger is currently serving a prison sentence on a drug related
charged but will be allowed to travel to the hospital.
On the way home from visiting his mother, Joey
and several other family members were involved in an automobile
accident Wednesday afternoon near the Arab Electric Co-op.
Maze was driving a Plymouth Town & Country minivan that collided
with a Chevrolet S-20 pickup. One person from the minivan
was flown to Huntsville Hospital by MedFlight helicopter.
Several other family members were transported by ground
ambulance to Marshall Medical Center North and Huntsville
Hospital.
After the wreck was cleared,
Joey, who was not injured in the accident, continued on to the
Maze Road residence where he found his father was lying in bed
and had apparently died in his sleep. According to reports
Randy Maze was last seen around 3 pm. The death is
being investigated by the Marshall County Coroner's Office and
law enforcement officials.
