The City of Arab is accepting donations to be used to build and install new fencing around the historic 1883 Methodist Church Cemetery located in downtown Arab on Shoal Cree Trail NE.  The cemetery has been included in the Alabama Historic Commission's Alabama Register of Historic Cemeteries and is the first in Marshall County to receive the designation.

A total of 500 feet of fencing will be required to complete the project.  The cost of completion is estimated to be approximately $15,000.  Arab city employees will construct and install the fencing when funding for the materials can be raised.

Donations from individuals, businesses, and corporations are currently being sought.  A 4" by 6.5" plaque will be provided for each four foot section donated and will be custom engraved for each donor.  A four foot section is $150 or $300 for a full eight foot section.  Donations checks should be made payable to The City of Arab Historic Cemetery Project and may be mailed to:  The City of Arab, 740 North Main St, Arab, AL  35016.

For more information contact Steve Hallman at (256) 586-6793 or Becky Hawkins at (256) 586-8128.  Click here to print a donation form....
